Lot Essay

From its inception in 1895 through World War II, the New York firm established by Edward F. Caldwell (d.1914) and partner Victor E. Von Lossberg (d.1942), was the premier American designer and manufacturer of custom lighting fixtures, metalwork and decorative objects. Bearing the engraved maker's plaquette for 'E. F. Caldwell & Co. New York', manufacture of the present lot predates 1916 when the firm was incorporated and 'Inc.' was added to the name.
