Modelled as Hindu figures, the kings with lotus crowns, the queens modelled holding an infant Ganesh, the pawns as various gods
The king -- 1 7/8 in. (4.7 cm.) high; the pawn -- 1½ in. (3.2 cm.) high

A North Indian carved figural ivory set exhibiting the same green stain, of small size, that depicts Sikhs is dated to the late 19th Century, and discussed by Gareth Williams Master Pieces, Apple Press, 2000, page 106.
