Examples of this form appears to be extremely rare, a similar example is in the collection of the Cleveland Museum and a covered cup and saucer with two handles of the same form is in the musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, see Tamara Préaud and Antoine d'Albis, La Porcelaine de Vincennes (Paris 1991), p. 157, no. 132.
A reference in the Vincennes sales ledger in the Sèvres archives (Vy 1 fol. 7) 'du 28 Avril 1753: livré pour Mme la Marquise de Pompadour, un gobelet à lait en or et soucoupe 76L' and is subsequently recorded in the post mortem inventory published by Cordey under no. 1743 as having come form Fontainebleau.
Inspiration for this type of decoration may have come from early blanc-de-chine produced at Dehua and much imitated at Meissen and St. Cloud. The combination of relief decoration and gilded scenes is reminiscent of Augsburg-decorated Meissen though the gilded decoration is more comparable to gilt-foil-decoration of enamel on copper.
