The monogram, HMTE, is that of Harmanus (b.c. 1747-1828) and Margarita Ten Eyck (1755-1834), and this tankard probably dates to 1776, when the couple married at the Dutch Church in Albany. Harmanus, a businessman with interests in real estate, was the son of Jacob H. Ten Eyck, a descendant of the Albany silversmithing family, and Anna Wendell. Margarita was the daughter of Hendrick Bleeker Jr. and Catharina Cuyler of Albany.
