Lot Essay

Wang Dafan (1888-1961)
An independent painter of the 1930s who excelled in figures. A second generation of the literati school of porcelain painting and a pupil of Wang Xiaotang. One of the 'Eight friends of Zhushan' from 1928, the name given by the people of Jingdezhen to a group of eight porcelain painters who met once a month at the time of the full moon to discuss, amongst other things, ideas for designs.
