CHURCHILL, Winston Spencer. Autograph letter signed ('Winston S. Churchill') to 'Dear David' [Lloyd George], Board of Trade, 29 August 1908, 1½ pages, 8vo.
A TRIBUTE TO HIS FRIENDSHIP WITH LLOYD GEORGE: Churchill has just seen a fruit basket Lloyd George is to give him (as a wedding present): 'It will always be preserved in my family as the gift of a remarkable man & as the symbol of a memorable political association. But to me it will only have a personal significance, & I shall remember all the pleasant hours we have passed together in topics grave & gay, & the warm feelings of comradeship which unite us'.
'Everybody, even those who did not know him, called Churchill Winston. Very few called Lloyd George, David: Churchill was one of the few' (Churchill, II, p.306).
