FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY inscribed by the author to Duff Cooper in the month of publication: 'To Duff from Winston June 1939'. Cooper was a key figure in Churchill's wartime government, acting as liaison with De Gaulle's Free French, and subsequently as ambassador in Paris. Step by Step gathers Churchill's weekly commentaries for the Evening Standard, which had been widely read throughout Europe in syndication. Woods A45.
