2 volumes, 2° (413 x 310mm). 76 hand-coloured aquatint plates by J.C. Stadler after J. Farington, 3 of which double-page, 2 plates watermarked 1825, 2 folding engraved maps on two double-page sheets, uncoloured plate of the Mask of Tamesis. (Occasional light spotting, soiling and offsetting, a few plates more heavily affected, old marginal repair to verso of pl. 8 'Stanton Harcourt', pl.9 'Langley Ware' on shorter paper, map to volume II lightly creased.) Contemporary straight-grained dark blue-black morocco, covers panelled with a gilt outer border composed of palmettes enclosing an inner gilt frame composed of a foliate scroll and an inner small palmette roll tool sandwiching a band of seven filets, flat spines gilt in panels, lettered in two, gilt edges (sometime rebacked preserving original backstrips, extremities rubbed, inner hinges reinforced).

This popular work originally intended to include the rivers Thames, Severn, Forth and Clyde 'and intended to illustrate an original History of those Rivers, including all that adorns, dignifies or enriches them and their Vicinities, whether of Art or Nature'. The project was abandoned at the completion of the History of the Thames. Abbey Scenery 432; Tooley 102. (2)
