The 18th century was a period of experimentation in which the Qianlong Emperor in particular, was very keen to combine or simulate different materials. While the present bowl is extremely rare and no other known examples of jade bowls with further lacquer decoration appear to have been published, a number of other examples of similar experimentation are known.
