The ovoid body painted with two five-clawed dragons striding amidst a stylised flame and lotus scroll and separated by two lotus blooms, above a band of overlapping petals around the foot, the shoulder with a band of lotus lappets enclosing floral motifs below keyfret at the neck

Lot Essay

Jiajing blue and white porcelain is characterised by bold design in rich violet-blue tones. The present lot possesses these qualities and also exhibits a typical design pattern of two dragons among floral scrolls in the central band. A similar jar was sold in at Christie's New York, 19 March 2009, lot 717.
