ATTRIBUTED TO THE PAINTER OF LOUVRE G.456, CIRCA 460-450 B.C.
The tondo with a nude athlete standing frontally with his right arm akimbo, a strigil in his left hand, his left foot turned out, his head turned in profile over his right shoulder, a fillet in added white in his hair, a starting post to the left, the edge of the trainer's seat to the right, enclosed within band of meander with dotted cross squares; the exterior with palestra scenes, one centered by a nude youth with his left arm akimbo, his mantle draped over his extended right arm, his head turned over his right shoulder towards the nude youth to the left, a strigil in his right hand, a draped youth to the right, a fluted starting post in between; the other side centered by a nude youth applying a strigil to his left arm, a bearded trainer before him holding a walking-stick in his right arm, a youth behind with a mantle draped over his shoulders, all wearing fillets in added white, an aryballos and sandals suspended above; palmettes framing the handles, details in added white and dilute glaze
