A GREEK BRONZE HELMET OF PHRYGIAN TYPE
LATE CLASSICAL TO EARLY HELLENISTIC PERIOD, CIRCA 350-300 B.C.
Of hammered sheet, the high crown arching forward and terminating in a vertical rounded peak, a carinated ridge above the flaring rim, the neck-guard extending lower than the visor, its front edge with rounded ear protectors overlapped by pointed projections at the rear of the visor, with three perforations on either side for attachment of now-missing cheek-guards, the front ornamented with an appliqué in the form of a facing head of Athena wearing a triple-crested helmet, her face framed by long wavy hair
