A GREEK MARBLE APHRODITE
LATE HELLENISTIC PERIOD, CIRCA 1ST CENTURY B.C.
The goddess standing with her weight on her left leg, her right slightly advanced, wearing a high-belted chiton that has fallen from her left shoulder revealing her breast, her himation wrapped around her hips and falling in swallow-tail folds along her left side, the toes of both feet emerging from below the hem, her left arm bent acutely, her forearm raised toward her head, remnants of her fingers along her left cheek, her center-parted hair rolled back and tied in a chignon, with grooves preserved for a diadem, her oval face with small fleshy lips and a pointed chin, leaning with her right forearm on a tree-trunk support fronted by Eros
