ALL LATER STRUCK WITH FRENCH IMPORT MARKS FOR GOLD 1864-1893
Oblong octagonal rings set with portrait miniatures on ivory, two of similar size, one depicting Elector Frederick Augustus III of Saxony (1750-1827), in white coat with red collar, wearing the blue moiré sash of the Royal Polish Order of the White Eagle, the other depicting Princess Caroline Maria Theresa of Saxony (1770-1804), née Princess of Parma and Infanta of Spain, in white dress, gem-set tiara and veil, the third, longer and set with a portrait miniature of a lady, in profile to the left, in blue and purple dress with gauze, ribbon and floral headdress in her powdered hair

Lot Essay

Other versions of the miniature of Princess Caroline are in the Schlossmuseum, Gotha, inv. no. 1438/M.13 and in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, inv. no. 26.168.68. Both Saxon miniatures are based on large- scale oil paintings by Anton Graff (1736-1813).
