Painted in blue, ochre, green and manganese with a full-length portrait, probably of the Duke of Cumberland, flanked by the initials DC and blue sponged trees on a blue and green mound, within a double blue line circular surround, the underside with a white tin glaze

Lot Essay

Dishes of this series use the same unknown common print source; the characters depicted being differentiated by their accompanying initials. This rare version inscribed DC represents Queen Anne's husband, Prince George of Denmark who was made Duke of Cumberland in 1689, see lot 1023 in this sale.
