Modelled as a tabby cat seated on his haunches, his striped tail curved beneath his legs and moulded up his chest, with striped fur, whiskers and face markings, the lip to the jug behind the cat's ears

Fragments of related examples have been excavated at Southwark Montague Close and Pickleherring sites and at Vauxhall. The closest in style to the present example is that inscribed L/W1/1659, see Louis L. Lipski and Michael Archer, Dated English Delftware, London, 1984, p. 226, no. 1002, sold by Sotheby's, New York, 20 October 1993, lot 19.
