A LONDON DELFT POLYCHROME DATED BOOK-SHAPED HAND-WARMER
1665, PROBABLY SOUTHWARK
With applied yellow serrated clasps, the edges of the pages in blue and green and the ribbed hollow spine with iron-red and yellow diamond-pattern flanked by blue chevrons on an iron-red ground, the front cover with the initials B./I.E within a diamond cartouche flanked the date 1665 within iron-red and blue flowerheads and a flourish above and below within a border of blue-edged green foliage, the reverse naively painted in blue, green, yellow, iron-red and manganese with a man standing behind a horse and cart beneath a tree, his dog following behind him, another dog chasing a rabbit in the foreground
