The lid engraved with God the Father and the Virgin, and with a sliding copper strap signed 'MICHEL MAN'; the body with angels carrying the instruments of the Passion; the underside decorated with a bunch of fruit and the interior with an angel and cockerel; on four ball feet; the underside of the lid with an elaborate lock and punched 'M M'; with working key

This casket can be compared with an example signed Michael Mann, illustrated in W. Wixom, Renaissance Bronzes from Ohio Collections, 1975, cat. no. 191. At least two other signed examples of similar material and colour scheme to the present example are recorded.
