The cover carved with Biblical scenes from the stories of Moses, Isaac and Abraham, and with four inscription panels reading 'RIES', 'ALLEN', 'BYBELSE' and 'HISTO' and an armorial of the crowned initials 'AWS' flanked by two lions, the sides with scenes of Adam and Eve and Noah and pairs of animals and with allegorical figures in panels, the underside with a kneeling figure greeting a triumphal military procession, later silver hinge
