Michael Broadbent who has been tasting Burgundy for well-over fifty years has this to say of this rare vintage; "A great vintage and, for ripeness and finesse, exceeding even the 1990. This vintage is a must." Tasting Notes from Michael Broadbent's Vintage Wine Romane-St. Vivant Three notes. First tasted at the Domaine in 2001: deep, intense; immediate fragrance; fleshy. A year later adding iron to its fruit and spice. Richly flavoured. Most recently: medium-deep, fairly open, light purple rim; broad, evolved floral nose, singed, spicy; sweet, lovely flavour, fruit and length, good tannin and acidity. Last tasted July 2003 (*****) Grands-Echézeaux Three notes. Fairly deep, plummy; perfect acidity, noticeable tannin. A year later (2003), richly coloured; rich, floral fragrance, very varietal; medium-sweet, very firm, crisp, good length, stylish wine. Most recently, a magnum: on opening, a whiff of ripe merde, deep, rich, Pinot, after an hour displaying deep fragrance; assertive, beautiful flavour, refreshing acidity, tannic. Magnificent but needs time. Last tasted Oct 2005 (*****) 2012 - 2025. Echézeaux Three notes. In 2002: herbaceous, vivid, crisp; sweet, easy charmer. The following year noting lovely fruit; singed, touch of tar; surprisingly sweet, soft, rich, a lovely mouthful though very tannic. Most recently: still fairly youthful; delicious varietal fragrance; soft yet touch of leanness and penetrating flavour. A very good Echézeaux. Oct 2005 *(***) 2010 - 2020. Vosne-Romanée, 1er Cru Cuvée Duvault-Blochet Due to the 'surmaturité' of the crop, a second wine produced using grapes from young vines from all of the Domaine's Grand Cru sites. Three notes. First tasted in Feb 2002: violet; spicy; attractive and elegant. The following year, initial violet rim now already a pale mauve; full, rich nose with bilberry-like fruit and singed bracken; fairly sweet, soft, lovely flavour. Most recently: now a medium-deep ruby; slightly singed and minty fragrance; seemed drier, modest body (12.5, touch of sharpness and unready. Last tasted March 2006 *(***) 2010 - 2015?
