Château Pichon-Longueville, Lalande--Vintage 1996
Pauillac, 2me cru classé. Château bottled
Tasting note: Cabernet Sauvignon 46 Merlot 34 Cabernet Franc 12 and Petit Verdot 8 An interesting cépages mix: 30 less Cabernet Sauvignon than the neighbouring Baron, and it tastes sweeter, more fleshy. However, all the '96 Pauillacs were showing well in April 1997, the Lalande, opaque of course, already very fragrant; rounded. Next at a vertical in October 2000, now a velvety dark cherry colour; crsip, cedary; leaner than the '95 but good fruit and extra dimension. The following month, alongside 13 other Pauillacs, on a par with Ch Grand-Puy-Lacoste though of contrasting style. Rich fruit and flesh. Attractive. Last noted Nov 2000 **(**) 2006-2018. Michael Broadbent, Vintage Wine.
