Château Pavie-Macquin--Vintage 2000
Saint-Emilion, grand cru classé. Château-bottled
Tasting note: A wine of great density, concentration, and intensity, the opaque blue/purple 2000 Pavie Macquin needs considerable aeration, but with decanting the prodigious bouquet of graphite, camphor, blackberry, blueberry, mineral, coffee, and smoky oak finally makes an appearance. Persuasive, expansive, full-bodied, and muscular, this enormously endowed, rich wine looks set for a long life, at least three decades. A terrific effort that rivals the compelling 1998. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2025. 95 points. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate #146, April 2003
