Provenance: Roger Cotes (1682-1716, Latin note of his gift to:) -- Harrold (signature) -- Thomas Philip Earl de Grey (bookplate). Although Cotes died young, he is remembered for editing the second edition of Newton's Principia (1713). Late 17th-century English black turkey, covers panelled in gilt with floral corner-pieces, gilt spine, white metal clasps, gilt edges (spine rubbed and faded, clasps defective, corners slightly bumped).
