NUMBER 1 OF 100 COPIES ON LARGE PAPER, EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED WITH OVER 330 PORTRAITS AND VIEWS, AND DOCUMENTS SIGNED BY CHARLES II, JAMES II AND SAMUEL PEPYS. The documents of Charles II and James II concern navy matters and are both countersigned by Samuel Pepys as secretary of the Navy: the first, 15 January 1673/4, orders the refitting and supplying of The Pearle at Plymouth; the second, 1 January 1687/8, authorises the commissioners of the Navy to make payments of arrears to the widow of Captain John Stevens, captain of the Chestnutt Pink; the other documents signed by Thomas Dongan, Governor of New York (fragmentary letter to [the Marquis de Denonville, Governor of New France, May 1686]) and Lucy Sandys, a friend of Nell Gwyn and a witness to her will.
