London: by T[homas] C[reed] for Leonard Becket, 1614. Small 8° (134 x 88mm). (Lightly browned throughout, occasional light soiling or staining, margins trimmed, occasionally touching headline). Crimson morocco by Riviere, spine lettered in gilt, gilt inner dentelles (spine a little sunfaded).
Second edition in English of this compilation of didactic and entertaining texts which were widely distributed from the late 15th to the 17th century under the general title Mensa philosophica. It has been variously attributed to Theobald Anguilbert, an Irish physician, and to Michael Scot, a late 12th to early 13th-century mathematician, physician and scholar whose name appears on A5r. STC 22062.
