Lot Essay

The gilt trophies on the present plates are from a series designed by Charles-François Leloy entitled Attributs des Petits Repas. See Christie's, New York, 20 October 2006, lot 732 for a set of twelve similarly decorated plates without the added central wreath found on the present examples; also Porcelaines et Terres de Sèvres, Musée National du Château de Compigène, pp. 126-127, no. 74 for a pair of vases 'Médicis', 4ème grandeur gilt with trophies also designed by Leloy, these emblematic of modern hunting (chasse moderne).
