Représentée debout en alidhasana, le bras droit tendu, la main en tarjanimudra devant tenir à l'origine le karttrika, la main gauche tenant à l'origine le kapala, entièrement nue, le visage féroce doré à froid, les détails peints, les cheveux retombant en mèches souples dans le dos et sur les épaules, le front ceint d'une tiare de laquelle pendent des rubans ; base moderne

She belongs to the esoteric teachings revealed by Vajrayogini to Naropa, the great Indian tantric master of the 11th century. She stands amidst the destroyed ocean of existence and gazes into the perfect space of emptiness and yells the sound of victory over evil. In Indian mythology dakinis represent a particular type of flesh-eating female spirits in the entourage of different deities such as Shiva and Kali. In Buddhism they are prominent in certain tantras where the mythical nature as flesh eating spirits is retained. However at the same time they are elevated to a higher status as companions of yogis and goddesses of mystical wisdom and extraordinary powers.
