Janis Joplin
A handwritten letter addressed to Peter [De Blanc] in black ink, dated Sept. 5 [1965], 4 pages, covering intense and personal issues, but mainly expressing Joplin's deep longing to speak to her then love, whom she had left behind in San Francisco but had subsequently moved to New York, whilst she had returned to Port Arthur: She begins the letter by expressing her affection Hey Baby, I still love you, continuing to explain how much she longed to hear from him please call me - collect is okay! Just call. I've tried calling you all day and haven't reached you, she continues by attempting to explain why she has not heard from or been able to contact him, making excuses and reasons to placate her fears, but the general tone is one of anxiety where she laments about not hearing from him. She supposes he is busy with his family or has left town. She begins to apologise for her manner, explaining I am so lonely all of the time and that makes just one day that I don't hear from you seem very major, however she further outlines her neurotic tendencies by remembering that he had called last Tuesday, which isn't even a week yet!, in the final paragraph she apologises for the depressing letter, reiterates how much she loves him, and again asks where he is, signing off I Love You J, 5pp; accompanied by a hand written envelope, date stamped Sept. 6, 1965 (6)
