Lot Essay

Prior to their appearance at the Corn Exchange, Keith had accompanied Beach Boy Bruce Johnston to the live recording of Ready, Steady, Go!, in London. As a result Keith and John arrived two hours late for the Newbury gig, only to find that Roger and Pete had already started without them, using the rhythm section from support band 'The Jimmie Brown Sound' as replacements. Keith and John finally took their places, but palpable annoyance within the two factions resulted in a violent confrontation, causing Keith to sustain a black eye and cut to the leg. The arguments escalated post gig, with Keith quitting the band. His self-imposed exile lasted for all of a week.
