Mostly written between 1800 and 1850, and probably compiled by Emily R. Prinsep (1798-1860), with contributions from other members of the family. The Prinsep family, decended from John Prinsep (1748-1830), a merchant who was the first of three succeeding generations of Prinseps in India, all of whom were known for their artistic abilities. Among his descendants are the artist Valentine Cameron Prinsep, the Anglo-Indian antiquarian, scholar and architect James Prinsep and others.
