Lot Essay

This chair is thought to have been designed by Rene Lalique and manufactured by his brother-in-law Charles Lambert in 1890 for Lalique's newly opened showroom on the fashionable Rue Therese. The ornate foliate design of the rooms reflected the popular Art Nouveau aesthetic of the day. Lalique remained there until 1903, when he moved to 40 Cours de la Reine.
