Ludwig II, (1845-1886), the King of Bavaria, commissioned related Meissen objects and mirrors for Schloss Linderhof, his extravagant second rococo revival abode in upper Bavaria, built 1878. See K. Krockenberger, Edles Meissner Porzellan aus 3 Jarhunderten, Winnenden, 2002, p. 270 for a similar mirror dated 1886; also compare Christie's, New York, 11 April 2007, lot 195.
