Please note the description for this lot should read as follows:

A ROSEWOOD EBONY AND IVORY 'THEBES' STOOL, FIRST HALF 20TH CENTURY

and not as printed in the catalogue.
This model of Thebes stool is an exact copy of that discovered in the tomb of Tutankhamun opened by Howard Carter in 1922. A number of versions of the Tutankhamun stool were made after its discovery in 1922. A scale drawing, with minor differences to the present lot, was illustrated as the first plate in Danish furniture designer Olé Wanscher's Mobelkunsten, 1952.
