LATE 19TH CENTURY
Gilt-metal mounted seal with ivory handle, the carnelian matrix engraved with a coat-of-arms; together with a steel-mounted ivory hand-seal, the matrix engraved with a coat-of-arms, in contemporary fitted leather case, the silk-lined interior stamped 'E. Ortner Jeweller 3 St James's St, Pall Mall, London & Seal Engraver to the Queen and Royal Family.'

The coat-of-arms on the former are those of Charles Robert Spencer, later 6th Earl Spencer (1857-1922) quartering those of Revelstoke, for Hon. Margaret Baring (1864-1906), daughter of 1st Baron Revelstoke. Charles Robert Spencer and Margaret Baring married in July 1887. (2)
