AN IVORY OKIMONO [SCULPTURAL ORNAMENT]
MEIJI PERIOD, LATE 19TH CENTURY
The sectional carving in wood and ivory of a seated garden lantern maker, his brushes on a small cabinet beside him and a hibachi [charcoal burner] on the other; together with a pair of hardstone hand-seals in the form Chinese dogs on square plinths, the matrices engraved 'Althorp'
The okimono: 2¾ in. (7 cm.) wide
The seals: 2½ in. (6.3 cm.) high (3)
