In 1833 Henry Pierce Bone painted a miniature in enamel of George John, 2nd Earl Spencer, commissioned by his son Viscount Althorp (made 3rd Earl the following year). The counter-enamel is inscribed 'George John, 2nd Earl Spencer, KG. born Septtr 1. 1758 Painted at Althorp, Octr 1833, for Ld. Visct. Althorp, partly from a picture by Vena- -bles, partly from life, by Henry Pierce Bone' (see The Spencer House Sale, Christie's London, 8 July 2010, lot 1063).
