The brass tools contained in a tapering shagreen covered and silver-mounted case, the cover engraved with initials 'JS' on applied oval silver plaque
5¼ in. (13.5 cm.) long
The initials are probably those of John Spencer, later 1st Earl Spencer (1734-83)
