Lot Essay

In 1930 the OM-45 Deluxe sold for $180 and was the most expensive flat-top guitar made by C.F. Martin & Company. Only fifteen of these highly ornamental guitars were constructed at the time. The very first example ever made was purchased, second-hand from a California pawnshop in 1932 for the rumored sum of $30.00 by the founding member of the cowboy band Sons of the Pioneers, Leonard Franklin Slye (Roy Rogers).

The model was re-introduced by C.F. Martin in 2006 as the OM-45B Roy Rogers. Production was then limited to 4 prototypes and an edition of l4 guitars. In true Roy Rogers tradition this was the very first example Martin produced.
