Lot Essay

Meninsky married his first wife Margaret O'Connor in 1917. She was known as Peggy and Meninsky painted her several times during their short-lived marriage (1917-1919). A series of drawings of his wife with his first son were published in book form in 1920 as Mother and Child: Twenty-eight Drawings. The tenderness in these works were instrumental in forming his early reputation.
