Complete Capodimonte spirit-barrels are extremely rare. Another example (supported by two satyrs on a stepped base) sold Christie's London, 24 March 1969, lot 168, is illustrated by Francesco Stazzi, Capodimonte, Milan, 1972, p. 331, no. 143, and at the time it was thought to be the only complete example in existence.
