Lot Essay

This version of the Crouching Venus has similarities to both the classical crouching Venus later copied by Antoine Coysevox and also the Giambologa crouching Venus. The crouching posture and the tortoise are the same as the classical prototype but the position of her arms relates to the Giambologna model.
