MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
The beast shown striding with flames emerging from its haunches and tufts of hair curled along its back on either side of the prominent backbone ending in the upswept tail, its mouth open in a fierce roar exposing its fangs, its eyes with intent gaze beneath thick brows and horns between the pricked ears, with a four-character archaistic inscription cast on the belly; together with an ivory stand carved as a whirlpool of crashing waves
