With compressed globular body rising to a tall neck and flared rim, covered overall, and on the base, with an unctuous glaze of sea-green tone, the foot rim left unglazed exposing the buff grey ware

Lot Essay

A very similar, though larger (15.9 cm. high), Longquan celadon zhadou, dated to the Song dynasty, was sold Sotheby's, New York, 31 March 2005, lot 33. See, also, the smaller (8.6 cm. high) example dated to the late Northern Song dynasty, illustrated by Zhu Boqian in Celadons from Longquan Kilns, Taipei, 1998, p. 171 no. 143.
