DAOGUANG SEAL MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD (1821-1850)
The ewer with globular body raised on four tapering columnar supports painted with lingzhi scroll, and painted around the sides with the Eight Buddhist Emblems (bajixiang), six positioned above lotus sprigs on two sides, the wheel shown below the diagonally set spout and the lotus underneath the curved handle, with further lingzhi scroll on the neck above a band of key fret, both repeated on the domed cover surrounding an arched handle and tiny vent hole

Lot Essay

A Daoguang-marked covered he of this pattern in the Simon Kwan Collection, was included in the exhibition Imperial Porcelain of Late Qing, Chinese University of Hong Kong, 13 August - 25 September 1983, no. 5. Several Qianlong-marked he of the same pattern are also known; one in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, included in the Special Exhibition of K'ang-hsi, Yung-cheng and Ch'ien-lung Wares, 1986, no. 71; one from the Tianjin Art Museum, included in the exhibition, Imperial China: The Living Past, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, 1992, no. 94; and one from Norbulingka, Lhasa, exhibited at the Palace Museum, Beijing, Gems of China's Cultural Relics, 1992, no. 46.
