Lot Essay

Compare the turquoise-glazed brush washer, dated 18th century, also modeled as a large lotus leaf, but with a chilong clambering along the undulating rim, illustrated by J. Ayers, The Chinese Porcelain Collection of Marie Vergottis, Foundation Georges et Marie Vergottis, Lausanne, 2004, p. 153, no. 178. See, also, the smaller (10.5 cm. across) and more simply modeled lotus-leaf-form brushwasher dated to the Kangxi period, in the Qing Court Collection, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - Small Refined Articles of the Study, Hong Kong, 2009, p. 135, no. 111, where another lotus-leaf-form vessel, but decorated in famille rose enamels, and bearing a gilt Qianlong seal mark, is illustrated, p. 290-1, no. 292.
