lithograph, 1912, on stiff wove paper, signed in pencil, dated 1913, printed from stone G/1, a very good, rich and tonal impression of this very rare lithograph, printing with a pale greyish-pink wash in places, with the artist's estate stamp of the Kunstmuseum Basel on the reverse, numbered L. 211 III, with wide margins, the sheet slightly irregularly trimmed, a small stain and a 5 mm. tear in the left margin, a crease across the upper left sheet corner, generally in good condition

Lot Essay

Günther Gercken records a total of seven examples of this lithograph, including the present impression. Following inspection of several impressions, Gercken concluded that Dube's supposed two states only describe variations between lighter and darker impressions of the one and only state.
