lithograph, 1922, on Chine, signed in black ink and inscribed épr. d'artiste, numbered 9/10, an artist's proof aside from the edition of fifty, dedicated in pencil à W. Pach Cordiall= HM, probably the full sheet (but fractionally smaller than recorded in D.-M.), a deckle edge at right, a very faint mounting line in soft pencil around the subject, the upper corners creased where previously stuck down, a small area of pinpoint foxing at lower right, otherwise generally in good condition
L. 410 x 515 mm., S. 458 x 605 mm.

Given by the artist to Walter Pach (1883-1958), New York. Then by descent to the present owners.

Without Walter Pach (1883-1958), the history of art in America would have been quite different. As art critic, historian, lecturer and agent, he was crucial in bringing the European avant-garde to the United States and became one earliest and most influential promoters of modern art in America.
