Property from the Collection of Mr Peter Warr; The former Grand Prix racing manager for Team Lotus and Walter Wolf Racing. Peter Warr joined Lotus in 1958, initially selling racing cars, then managing the manfacturing company. In 1969 Colin Chapman invited him to manage Team Lotus, the factory racing organisation, running several teams in various Formulae from 1970 onwards. In 1977 Warr moved to manage a racing team for Canadian privateer Walter Wolf, subsequently joining forces with the Fittipaldi Automotive Team for the the brothers Emerson and Wilson. He rejoined Team Lotus for the 1981 season, and following the death of founder Colin Chapman in 1982, he took on all responsibilty for their Formula One activities until retiring in 1989. During his time as Team-manager of many of the worlds finest exponents, his drivers achieved for him thirty Grand Prix wins; including individual World Championships as well as those for Constructors. Having concluded informal arrangements with all his contracted drivers that they would donate him one of their helmets, it is these which form this unique collection with perfect provenance. No less than nine World Champion drivers are represented and each helmet is accompanied by a letter from the owner confirming it's authenticity.
Roberto Moreno Team Lotus driver for one race in 1982 when he deputised for the injured Nigel Mansell at Zandvoort, but was unfortunate because the team suffered uncontrollability on ground effect cars. He did not qualify but subsequently has driven five seasons in Formula One. Best result 2nd in Japanese Grand Prix 1990 (Benetton). Moreno currently has a full-time drive in CART Indycars. The helmet is from 1982 and is Bol d'Or of Brasilia; the pattern is still used by Moreno today. His blood group (A-) appears below his name on each side of the helmet, but the once-only John Player display above the visor was removed and the side decals changed, as he had another race commitment the weekend following Zandvoort.
