Elio de Angelis
Team Lotus driver from 1980 until 1985. Winner of 2 Grands Prix.
Naturally talented from a patrician Roman family, Elio was relaxation personified. This approach contrasted with Nigel Mansell's hard discipline, gave rise to some friction in the team; often arriving at the last minute, Elio would go out and be instantly the faster of the two. He waited a long time for his first victory in Austria - one of the closest ever in Grand Prix racing - and his second at home in Italy (Imola) after Alan Prost was disqualified.
Elio always used Simpson helmets, sometimes with vents for cooling. This particular helmet is a cold-weather type, having solid chin area and was used during the 1982 season. With applied stickers of personal sponsor Guida Monaci, and dark vizor with preferred red tank-tape strip to top.
