The BMW 502 has the distinction of being BMW's first V8 motor car and the first post-war German car of any kind with this configuration. The rounded styling of the body earned the car the nickname "Baroque Angel" when the shape was first seen on the much less powerful six cylinder 501 in 1952, but these large BMWs were beautifully made Autobahn cruisers. The new alloy V8 engine lifted the 502 into the 100mph class and put it among the fastest saloon cars available in Germany in the 1950s. With a massively constructed tubular chassis frame the cars handled well and had a true air of refinement, aided by the smoothness of the V8 engine. The car formed the basis of the later 507 sportscar which used a shorter version of the same chassis and a more powerful 3.2 litre version of the V8 engine. Although these large V8 BMWs were produced well into the 1960s the future of the company didn't lie with such expensive, upper crust machinery that could never be built or sold in high enough numbers.

This is an original 502 in need of restoration and in non-running condition. However, the leather interior is in good condition and the car has good potential as a restoration project for an enthusiast. It carries German registration documents and is Swiss duty paid.
